| Course Objective: |
• Student will have an understanding
of the reason and indication of the use of Holistic
Massage therapy and other therapies e.g. Reflexology,
reiki, homeopathy, yoga, acupuncture etc. •
Student will have knowledge and understanding of
the anatomy and physiology of the body •
Student will be proficient in applying the 5 classical
movements of massage and practice good Holistic
Massage practical technique and observe contraindication
• Professional Conduct and Business Awareness
• Student will have an understanding of history,
development and definition of Aromatherapy and the
holistic approach • Student will have
knowledge and use of 42 essential oils – botanical
name, country of origin, method of extraction, characteristic,
therapeutic effects, chemical constituents, safety
precaution and contraindication • Student
will acquire the knowledge of blending and danger
of over-dosage • Student will be proficient
in applying aromatherapy massage – scalp,
face and body • Knowledge of First aid
and Business • Perform client consultation
and plan massage treatment of 20min to 90min massage. |
| Course Syllabus: |
Anatomy and Physiology
The structure and function of cells and the following
systems, cover the structure and function of each
organ and recognize the cause and effect of the
disease and disorder: skeletal system, muscular
system, vascular system, lymphatic system, neurology
system, endocrine system, respiratory system,
digestive system, genitourinary system,
reproductive system, and skin.
Massage:
Client consultation’ knowledge of contraindication,
draping procedures, hygiene procedures, Know the
massage technique application and the area that
is worked on. Knowledge of infrared it’s
uses and precaution.
Aromatherapy syllabus:
Essential oils:
Study of 40 essential oils- common name and botanical
name, method of extraction, characteristics, therapeutic
effect, precaution; an understanding of blending
of essential oils to safe levels as specified;
methods of application of massage, compress, bath,
vapourisers, inhalations etc; chemical constituents
of essential oils, effect of carrier oils to the
skin, correct dosage of essential oils and carrier
oils; the effect of essential oils on all systems
of the body.
Practical:
Efficient preparation of the workplace, hygiene,
consultation procedures, record keeping, professional
image, listening skill and relaxation techniques;
client assessments and consultation; recognize
common ailments and contraindications to aromatherapy;
client handling before and during consultation
and before, during and after treatment; suitable
selection and blending of essential oils in appropriate
carrier oils; perform Aromatherapy massage of
body, face and scalp.
Core Subject:
Professional ethics, first aid and salon safety,
hygiene and sterilization, client handling and
business studies. Examination will contain questions
on the core subjects syllabus. |
