Training Hours:

360hrs – Theory 108 hrs & Practical and case studies 252 hrs

Full-time:

Mon to Fri (9.00am –18.00pm)

Part-time:

Mon /Wed /Fri (19:00pm – 22.00pm)

Entry Requirements:

• 16 years old and above
• At least GCE “O” level or GCE “N” level or equivalent

Course Objective:

• Student has an understanding of the history, development and definition of Aromatherapy and the holistic approach
• Define briefly other therapies: homeopathy, reflexology, reiki /spirtual healing, yoga/meditation, acupressure etc
• Student will have knowledge and use of 60 essential oils – method of extraction, characteristic, therapeutic effects, and country of origin, chemical constituents, safety precaution, and contraindications.
• Student will acquire the knowledge of blending and danger of over-dosage
• Knowledge of First aid and Business Awareness
• Student will be proficient in applying aromatherapy massage – scalp, face and body
• Practice good Aromatherapy massage technique and observe the contraindication.
• Perform client consultation and design a treatment plan

Course Syllabus:

Essential oils :
Study 60 essential oils – common name and botanical name, method of extraction, characteristics, therapeutic effects, precaution; an understanding of blending of essential oils to safe levels as specified; methods of application for massage, compress, bath, vapourisers, inhalations etc; chemical constituents of essential oils; effect of carrier oils to the skin correct storage of essential oils and carrier oils; the effect of essential oils on all systems of the body.

Practical :
Efficient preparation of the workplace, hygiene, consultation procedures, recording
keeping, professional image, listening skill and relaxation techniques; client assessments and consultation; recognize common ailments and contraindications aromatherapy; client handling before and during consultation and before and during and after treatment; suitable selection and blending of essential oils in appropriate carrier oils; perform Aromatherapy massage of body, face and scalp;

Core Subjects:
Professional ethics, first aid and salon safety, hygiene and sterilization, client handling and business studies, the examination will contain questions on the core subjects syllabus

Aromatherapy Massage:
Client consultation, knowledge of contraindication, draping procedures, hygiene procedures. Know the massage technique application and the area that is worked on. Knowledge of infrared its uses and precaution.

Course Requirement:

Case studies:
Case studies: 50 hrs
Each client to be treated Five times showing the full consultation process, massage technique used, aftercare to include home advice

Business Project:

Write a 2000 Words thesis on a Business Plan / Marketing Plan, relating to a spa set-up

Examination:

Three hours written theory paper covering all aspects of the syllabus and core subjects
One hour practical to include 15 minutes consultation plus 45 minutes massage demonstrating all main areas including the face and scalp. Oral questions at the discretion of the examiner
